Season’s Greetings, everyone!

So what do parents really need at this time of year?

The thing most people (whether they’re parents or not) will say is “time” – no matter how much we prepare, there always seems to be something else that needs to be done.

How do you get more time? Well, you can’t – but planning and organisation can help everyone use their time well, which hopefully means less stress and happier celebrations with family and friends.

What helps planning and organisation? Information, of course! That’s why we’ve sent a special Festive Newsletter to people on our mailing list with links to information about celebrating safely, coping and technology presents.

For example, the Office for Product Safety and Standards’ 12 rules of Christmas has 12 checks to help buy presents which are safe for children. Anyone using a travel cot when staying with relatives will find the Lullaby Trust’s information about mattresses and bedding useful. We’ve also included health information about norovirus and pharmacy opening times in the West Midlands, plus several links to information about alcohol.

December and the festive season can be stressful and difficult for many people – for all sorts of reasons. Our newsletter has loads of links to information about surviving Christmas, self-care, helping children who are  anxious about Christmas, co-parenting, eating disorders, loneliness – and lots more!

It’s possible that presents will include new technology – or maybe you want to set parental controls for television viewing? Our newsletter has links to information for setting up children’s tech safely, online gaming tips, guides to various social media platforms (eg: Instagram) and apps, plus general information about keeping children and young people safe online.

We’ve even included a fun link to track Santa on Christmas Eve (if you visit before then you can see Santa’s village)!

That’s a taster – there’s lots more in the newsletter.  If you’d like to receive our email updates, we just need an email address to send them to you (you can stop receiving them at any time and we won’t sell your details to anyone – we hate spam!).

If you’d like to read the full Festive newsletter you can find it here. (If you have any comments about it, please contact us – we’d love some feedback!)

We wish you all a safe and happy time with your families.
